The Asia Pacific Yo-Yo Championships run on support from family, friends, relatives and volunteers. However, as AP grows bigger each year, we find ourselves being short-handed on more occasions than one. Whether you are a die-hard yo-yo fan, want to cheer on a friend, give back to the community or just want to learn how to run an event, being a volunteer is a great way to be involved. We are recruiting volunteers to help out during event week and on the event weekend.


Volunteer Roles & Positions

1) Co-Emcee

  1. -1 position needing to be filled.

  2. -The Co-Emcee will need to share emceeing duties with the main Emcee.

  3. -He/She is required to announce and introduce competitors onto the stage.

  4. -He/She is required to make regular announcements and broadcast event information.


  1. 2)Registration Personnel

  2. -2 positions needing to be filled.

  3. -Registration Personnel need to register participants before the event starts.

  4. -They will need to ensure that all payments and music is collected.

  5. -They will need to distribute AP Registration Package when competitors come in to register

  6. -They will need to order and put into sequence competitors’ music.


3) Logistics Personnel

  1. -2 positions needing to be filled.

  2. -Logistics Personnel will need to help move and shift all event equipment to the event venue.

  3. -They will need to help with the set-up of the venue. (Things like Judge Tables, Chairs, Booth, etc)

  4. -They will need to help with the packing up and clearing after the event ends.

  5. -Each day, they will need to help with the setting up and packing of all event equipment and inventory.


4) After Party Facilitator

  1. -3 positions needing to be filled.

  2. -After Party Facilitators will need to help set up for the AP Bash After Party.

  3. -They will need to work together to set-up, prep and get the venue organised for the Party.

  4. -They will need to ensure all party participants are either AP competitors or have a Bash ticket for entry.

  5. -The set-up / prep includes things like distributing food, drinks, liaising with sound man, etc.


5) Music Co-ordinator

  1. -2 positions needing to be filled.

  2. -Music Co-ordinators will need to play the music/songs for each competitor.

  3. -They will need to ensure that music is played correctly (1 minute or 3 minutes) for each freestyle.

  4. -They will need to ensure that the music tallies to the competitor who is on stage.


  1. 6)Prize-giving Co-ordinator

  2. -1 position needing to be filled.

  3. -Prize-giving Co-ordinator needs to arrange and prepare prize table for the prize-giving ceremony.

  4. -He/She will need to pass the correct prizes to the GOH during the ceremony.

  5. -He/She will need to help prepare and pack prizes during the event.


  1. 7)Photographer Runner

  2. -1 position needing to be filled.

  3. -Photographer Runner will need to assist the photographer in ensuring that competitors and players do not get in the way.

  4. -He/She will need to look out for the welfare of the Photographer & Videographer.

  5. -This would be a great learning opportunity to learn from professional Photographers & Videographers.


  1. 8)First Aider

  2. -1 position needing to be filled.

  3. -First Aider will need to be on hand to render first aid as and when needed.

  4. -He/She will need to be on standby in case any competitor is not feeling well, and needs to be taken to a doctor or help needs to be rendered.


  1. 9)Judge Runner

  2. -1 position needing to be filled.

  3. -Judge Runner will need to assist the Judges in ensuring that competitors and players do not get in the way during competition.

  4. -He/She will need to look out for the welfare of the Judges.


  1. 10)Emcee Runner

  2. -1 position needing to be filled.

  3. -Emcee Runner will need to assist the Emcee & Stage Manager in ensuring that competitors and players are organized before going on stage.

  4. -He/She will need to look out for the welfare of the Emcee.

  5. -This would be a great learning opportunity to learn to Emcee & to manage the stage.


All Volunteers will get to:

  1. 1)Learn how an event runs

  2. 2)Learn how to run an event

  3. 3)Experience being on the field making decisions

  4. 4)Have mentors and buddies to guide them through the event

  5. 5)Participate in one of the biggest yo-yo competitions around

That said, any form of help from volunteers is precious to us, and the AP Crew appreciates and is grateful to all volunteers in making AP a successful event. We won’t be able to do it without your help!
